| Company Overview: Buckeye Technologies Inc. is a leading producer of value-added cellulose-based specialty products. We have leading positions in many of the high-end niche markets in which we compete. Our expertise in polymer chemistry and fiber science, combined with advanced manufacturing practices, has enabled Buckeye to provide innovative and proprietary products to our customers around the globe.
Buckeye is the only manufacturer in the world offering cellulose-based specialty products made from both wood and cotton and utilizing wetlaid and airlaid technologies. As a result, we produce and market a broader range of cellulose-based specialty products than any of our competitors.
Specialty cellulose generally commands higher prices, and demand for specialty cellulose is less cyclical than commodity cellulose. The more demanding performance requirements for products requiring specialty cellulose limit the number of participants in our niche markets. Our focus on niche specialty cellulose markets has enabled us to maintain positive cash flows even during cyclical downturns in the commodity cellulose markets.
Buckeye's chemical cellulose is used in the manufacture of diverse products such as food casings, rayon industrial cord, acetate fibers and plastics, as well as thickeners for personal care products, food and pharmaceuticals. Our customized fibers are used to manufacture automotive air and oil filters, premium letter head, currency paper, and personal stationery. Fluff pulp is used in products such as disposable diapers, feminine hygiene products and incontinence products. Our nonwoven materials are used in feminine hygiene products, wipes, table top items, food pads, incontinence and household cleaning products.
Buckeye’s strategy is to: 1) grow the company through profitable and sustainable means, 2) pursue continuous business improvement through additional advances in quality, safety, and reliability as well as a continued focus on customers, cash, improving our cost position, and addressing under-performing assets, and 3) develop people and organization capability. As such, we will deploy our capital responsibly and through a balanced approach between investing in high-return projects, returning cash to shareholders, and adding complementary assets.
Buckeye's production facilities are located in Memphis, Tennessee; Perry, Florida; Lumberton and Mt. Holly, North Carolina; Steinfurt, Germany; Vancouver, Canada; with sales offices in Memphis, Tennessee and Geneva, Switzerland.
